Trim Marks for Print
Tara Book
I went to see an exhibition by an India publishing house named Tara Books. They’re famous for making the picture book with the local artists by hand. It’s being held in Kyoto Hosomi Museum.
The silkscreen need a trim mark to determining the position of the paper but it was made by a scrap of the sweets box.
However, they are second to none when it comes to making the beautiful picture books in the world. What’s more, they never depend on efficient machinery. It seems like they put their soul into making it in all the process.
Trim Mark in Japan
My New Work
I created an abstract art by experimenting in woodcut printing. I usually make a trim mark on one side of the printing block but this time, I made four instead. Then I printed it on paper after the printing block rotated. Many kinds of abstract arts is made by the combination.
There’s one I call Fire and Water. It’s supposed to represent a male and a female.
